Matt Burdis (or Matthew Burdis) is a design & product leader with 11+ years of experience building design disciplines, leading multidisciplinary teams, and driving measurable commercial outcomes across fintech, agencies and high-growth consumer businesses. At RVU (the group behind Uswitch , Money.co.uk , Confused.com and Bankrate ) he held one of the first Leadership Team-level design roles in the company’s history, reporting directly to the Financial Services CEO and owning over 50% of the Financial Services budget, delivering significant growth across ARR, EBITDA and customer acquisition. Before that, he joined Pockit (a UK challenger bank) founding the UX discipline from scratch, and growing to lead the entire design function; during his tenure he led key initiatives that achieved positive unit economics and grew the active customer base from 70,000 to 700,000. Outside of in-house roles he has built multiple ventures -including "flex" (Flex Money), a fintech startup, which he saw through multiple funding rounds to a 7-8 figure £ valuation as CDPO- and is currently consulting internationally, specialising in international market expansion, AI product development, and creator economy business strategy. He holds a Masters of Engineering in Product Design from the University of Nottingham .
Burdis began his career as a founder whilst still studying at the University of Nottingham — launching a mobile gaming company and releasing 5 apps across iOS and Android that reached tens of thousands of downloads, turning profitable within the first year. Early contracting and consulting roles followed, including work at HAVAS alongside their UX teams and group CTO, and at Marks & Spencer where he designed a regional digital training initiative that was rolled out to thousands of employees across the business. In 2018 he joined Pockit, a UK challenger bank serving the financially underserved where he founded the UX discipline from scratch, growing to lead the entire design function and a team of four designers. He led key product and acquisition squads and initiatives that grew the customer base from 70,000 to 700,000, achieved positive unit economics, and established user research practices that directly informed the company’s broader business strategy. In 2020 he co-founded flex (Flex Money Ltd.) alongside CEO Jos Henson Grič - a UK fintech startup redefining access to credit for financially excluded consumers (as featured in Fintech Futures and Crowdfund Insider). As Chief Design and Product Officer he owned design and development end-to-end, took the business through multiple angel funding rounds to a 7/8-figure valuation, and grew the team from 2 to 14. He also led design and development for the flex agency (now known as flexperts), working with prominent and notable clients in the cryptocurrency, web3 and consumer finance industries. Burdis joined RVU (2021-2024) - the Red Ventures partner company behind Uswitch, Money.co.uk, Confused.com and Bankrate - where he led design function for the Financial Service business and held one of the first Leadership Team-level design roles in the company’s history. Reporting directly to the Financial Services CEO and owning over 50% of the Financial Services budget, he set product and design strategy across multiple household brands serving millions of customers, led the design team and multiple product squads, delivering significant growth across ARR, EBITDA and customer acquisition. He developed strategies, frameworks and projects that became some of the most successful initiatives in the business and became core to the wider group’s business strategy. Since 2024 he has been consulting internationally, working directly with founders and CEOs on complex product and business challenges. Current specialisms include international market expansion, AI product development and creator economy business strategy - engagements have included go-to-market strategy and monetisation for an AI translation venture, and market entry strategy and growth roadmap for an Education Tech platform.
